Lynn’s Comments: I first heard about World Women Global Council last month and was kindly invited by Sanjukta Das to participate and speak. Little did I know at the time, I accepted, but it was also an opportunity for myself to be recognized and receive a Women’s Hero Award for International Women’s Day. I have always enjoy getting out into the community, engaging with others and speaking to an audience.
Celebrating Womanhood and the launch of World Women Global Council was held on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 from 5pm-8pm at the Art of Living Centre in Mississauga, Ontario in Canada. It was an excellent evening with the MP, Brad Butt of Streetsville, Mississauga as the lead speaker. Women Hero’s honored included:
Shelly Siddoo
Lynn Manwar
Meena Chopra
Asma Mahmood
We also got to hear Debra Eklove, President of the Art of Living Foundation Canada speak which was extremely enlightening. Overall, it was a great celebration, moving, educational and inspiring! Being a woman is wonderful and I had the chance to speak about some of the women who helped me on my journey back to recovery in 2012. I am extremely grateful for all the women who touched my life, as I made it because of them!
Lynn’s Comments: I was home on August 4th, 2012 when I got a call and a Facebook message about an opportunity to attend PIFAA 2012 at the Air Canada Centre, as my friend had extra tickets. He asked me if I would like to attend and I said yes to the amazing chance to spend an evening to see Punjabi Film Stars, song and dance. I was resting as I am in the midst of radiation treatment, but conserved my energy and got a drop downtown to meet my friend to attend the actual event.
On my mother’s side, our ancestry is Punjabi and it was nice to go to an event that is connected to 50% of my roots. The awards show was pretty much all in Punjabi so, since I don’t understand the language, I just watched the song and dance, along with the beautiful people in the audience. It was a packed house, and a great turnout— considering it was a first awards show of the Punjabi film industry.
It started at 8pm promptly and during the show, I got up and walked around. I purchased herbal tea and a muffin, as I needed to regain some energy. After watching some wonderful awards presentations and performances, I decided to leave at 10:45pm and call it a night. The show was not yet over, but I ensured that I took care of myself and headed home on the subway.
I was extremely grateful that I received a ticket to attend PIFAA. It was a memorable cultural experience!
Lynn’s Comments:
Anokhi’s 5th Annual Gala was held on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at the prestigious Liberty Grand entertainment complex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is an annual event that honours a roster of international talented South Asians from business, entertainment, fashion and media. There was a 2 hour awards and entertainment show, accompanied by a 4 course dinner and followed by an exclusive VIP afterparty.
It was an inspirational and heart warming evening that celebrated the success of Raj Girn, Anokhi and talented individuals from across the Globe. I had the good fortune of having Jenna Kash of JK Lifestyle, as my company for the evening. We had the opportunity to meet both international and local celebrities. I had a great night and look forward to Anokhi’s Gala next year!
